Not Everything Is Clear Right Away
Sometimes you look at a person, a situation or a new idea and it feels like everything is already clear. Then time passes, and you think: it was good that I did not rush to a conclusion.
Not Everything Is Clear Right Away
Over the last few years, I have noticed this more often: the first impression is not always right. Sometimes you only begin to understand a person, a country, an idea or even yourself with time.
I am not always good at slowing down. But life has shown me more than once: sometimes it is better to pause, look again and only then decide.
This has happened to me more than once. At first, everything seems clear. This person is not for me. This idea is strange. This situation is uncomfortable. This country is hard to understand. This decision feels doubtful. Then time passes, and the picture becomes very different.
We often make conclusions too quickly
Sometimes someone says something the wrong way. Does not answer right away. Acts differently from what you expected. Or simply does not make a good first impression.
And you already feel like you have decided everything. This person is not your kind of person. There is nothing interesting here. This is not for me.
But very often we only see a small piece. Not the whole story. Not the whole day this person has had. Not their tiredness. Not their fears. Not what is happening in their life right now.
Sometimes a little time is enough to understand: the first thought came too quickly.
Where I try not to rush
- First impressions of people
- New ideas
- Unfamiliar situations
- Life in another country
- Business and communication
- My own decisions
Moving to Norway showed this clearly
When we first moved to Norway, many things seemed strange. A different rhythm. Different rules. A different school system. A different everyday life. A different way of communicating.
Sometimes the first reaction was very simple: why is everything so slow? Why is it so complicated? Why can it not be faster? Why do we need to wait so long for an answer?
Then you live here a little longer and start to see more than just the inconvenience. You start noticing calm. Predictability. Less unnecessary noise. More respect for personal space.
Not everything became clear right away. And I still do not like everything even now. But I definitely started seeing many things differently than I did in the first months.
It is the same with people
You do not always see a person clearly from the first conversation. Someone may seem cold at first, and later turn out to be a very normal person.
Someone talks a lot, but with time you understand that words do not always mean action.
And someone stays quiet, promises nothing special, but at the right moment simply helps.
That is why I try more often not to judge a person right away. It does not always work. But I am learning.
Sometimes a person is simply not at their best
Sometimes someone answers sharply. Looks at you the wrong way. Says something awkwardly. Reacts in a way you did not expect.
The first reaction can be simple: unpleasant. Strange. Why like that?
But then you think: what do I actually know about their day? Maybe the person did not sleep well. Maybe they have problems at home. Maybe they are worried about work. Maybe they are simply having a hard time, and I only see one moment.
This does not mean that everything should be excused. But sometimes this pause helps not to create extra tension in your own head.
Pause
Not everything has to be decided in the first minute. Sometimes it is better to wait a little.
Wider
Maybe I do not see the whole picture. Maybe I only see a small piece of the situation.
Time
Some things do not become clear right away. They simply need time.
New ideas do not always feel right the first time
Sometimes you hear an idea and immediately think: no, this is definitely not for me.
Then time passes. You see more. You learn the details. You watch other people. You compare it with your own life. And suddenly it does not feel so foreign anymore.
Not because someone convinced you. But because you saw more yourself.
This happens with learning, work, health, new habits, products and even business.
Not everything unfamiliar is bad
I think we often confuse unfamiliar with bad.
If something does not work the way we are used to, the first thought can be: something is wrong here.
But sometimes it is simply a different approach. A different rhythm. Different rules. A different way to speak, work, build relationships or make decisions.
At first, it can be annoying. Because familiar things are always easier. But if you do not close the door right away, you can sometimes find something useful even in what first seemed strange.
Sometimes I change my own mind
Earlier, I could say: no, this is definitely not for me.
Then after some time, I would come back to the same topic and look at it more calmly.
It happened with some habits. It happened with health. It happened with business. It happened with life in a new country.
And there is nothing strange about that. We change too. What felt far away yesterday may feel very close tomorrow.
In business, this also matters
When you talk to people about new opportunities, products, FitLine or PM International, it is very easy to want a quick answer.
Is the person interested or not? Will they try something or not? Do they want to understand it or not?
But I see more and more: not everything is decided right away.
A person can hear something and return to the topic later. They can say no at first, and after some time ask a question themselves. They can stay silent not because they do not care, but because they simply have other things going on right now.
That is why a calmer approach feels closer to me. Share. Do not pressure. Give time. And do not turn every answer into a big drama.
Not every “no” is final
And not every “yes” means that a person is truly ready.
Life has many shades. Today someone has no space for this. Tomorrow they may think differently. In a month, their situation may change. Or maybe nothing will change, and that is also fine.
I do not want to rush these things. Because when a person is pushed, they often close off.
And when there is calm, it is easier for them to understand for themselves whether they are interested or not.
I am not always good at this either
I do not want to look like someone who has already understood everything and now always looks at life calmly.
No. I can also rush. I can make a conclusion too quickly. I can think: this is not for me, without fully understanding it.
Sometimes I can get offended, and later understand that the person did not mean anything bad at all.
But I have started noticing this in myself more often. And for me, that is already a change.
The older you get, the less you want to rush
After 40, I started seeing many things differently. I have less desire to prove something. Less desire to argue. Less desire to put a final dot where I can simply wait a little.
Now something else feels closer to me. To look. To observe. To ask a question. To give a person or a situation some time.
Not because I have become very wise. Simply because there have already been enough moments when the first conclusion was not the best one.
Sometimes it is good that not everything is clear right away
If we could see everything at once, life would probably be simpler. But not necessarily more interesting.
Some people open up slowly. Some countries do too. Some decisions only become clear after experience. Some ideas first feel foreign, and later become part of your path.
Maybe that is why it is not worth closing the door too quickly if you have not yet really seen what is behind it.
Not everything opens up at first sight
People, countries, ideas, opportunities and even our own decisions often become clearer only with time.
So I am learning more and more not to rush. To wait a little. To look again. And to give life a chance to show more than was visible at first.
