I Started Noticing Simple Things More

Before, many ordinary moments passed by me almost unnoticed. Work, daily tasks, plans, thoughts about money, everyday life, moving, new questions. It felt as if I always had to keep moving somewhere. And then, at some point, I started noticing more of what had always been close.

LIFE & OBSERVATIONS

I Started Noticing Simple Things More

With time, I started looking at ordinary moments differently. Not because life became easy. But after moving, family worries and different changes, you begin to see a little more clearly what used to feel like background.

In short

This is not an article about beautiful words. It is about ordinary life: home, children, walks, conversations, evenings, silence and moments that we often start to value not right away.

I think many people live faster when they are younger. You want to prove something, earn something, build something, manage to get somewhere. And in this constant movement, it is very easy not to notice the simple things that life is actually made of.

Before, I simply did not see many of these things

A calm morning. The way to school. An ordinary conversation at home. Light in the window in the evening. A walk without rushing. Children nearby.

Once, all of this was just part of the day for me. Like a background. Like something that was just there and did not need special attention.

It seemed that real life was something bigger. Big decisions. Visible results. Serious changes. Some events after which you could say: now something has really happened.

But now I more often catch myself thinking that a lot of important things are hidden exactly in simple moments. Not always visible. Not always nice from the outside. But very real.

What I started noticing more

  • Calm mornings
  • Ordinary conversations at home
  • Time with the children
  • Walks without rushing
  • Evenings with family
  • The feeling of home

After moving, I felt this even more

Moving to Norway changed many things.

Another country. Another language. Another everyday life. Different rules. A different rhythm. A different way of looking at many things.

At first, you mostly think about practical things: housing, school, paperwork, work, language, money and everyday questions.

Then, when the first tension becomes a little lighter, you begin to notice other things. The road you walk almost every day. How the children get used to a new life. How your feeling of home changes. How much an ordinary evening means when everyone is simply nearby.

Not because everything is easy here. But when life changes strongly, you also begin to look at it a little differently.

Sometimes it is enough just to stop for a moment

Today it is very easy to live as if you are always behind on something.

You need to answer. You need to do. You need to manage. You need to think ahead. You need to solve one more thing.

And even when no one is pushing you, inside there can still be a feeling that you need to move faster.

But I noticed that I need more and more moments when I can slow down a little.

Just go for a walk. Sit at home. Talk with my wife. Listen to the children. Look out the window. Not try to solve everything at once.

Sometimes in such moments, your head slowly comes back into place.

01

Slow down

Not everything has to be solved at once. Sometimes you need to stop for a moment to see what is already close to you.

02

Look closer

A lot of important things are not only in big events, but in ordinary days that we often miss.

03

Be present

Sometimes the most important thing is not another task, but the people who are next to you right now.

Children show very clearly how fast time goes

When there are three children in the family, time becomes especially visible.

Our older son is almost an adult. Our daughter is changing quickly. The youngest still loves being close, telling something, asking questions, coming over exactly when you are already tired.

Sometimes it is not easy. Sometimes you want silence. Sometimes it feels like there is not enough strength even for a simple conversation.

But then you look at them and understand: these ordinary moments are exactly what will stay in memory later.

Not only holidays. Not only trips. Not only some big events. But simple days, when everyone was nearby.

With age, priorities really do change

Before, it often seemed to me that speed was the main thing.

Do more. Manage more. Earn more. Move faster. Do not fall behind.

Now I will not say that this has become unimportant. Money matters. Work matters. Results matter too.

But together with this, another understanding has appeared.

It matters what state you live in. Whether you have strength to be with your family. Whether there is a normal atmosphere at home. Whether you notice your children. Whether you hear your wife. Whether life does not pass only as a list of tasks.

Simple things often turn out to be more important than they seemed

A person often looks for something big.

A big change. A big answer. A big result. A big event after which everything will become clear.

But then time passes, and completely different things stay in memory.

Some evening at home. A conversation in the kitchen. A walk. A child's question. Laughter. The road home. An ordinary day that did not seem special at the time.

Maybe that is why I started paying more attention to these moments. I do not want to understand their price only when they are already in the past.

Norway taught me to walk more

Here I notice more often how much a simple walk can give.

Not as sport. Not as a plan. Not as a task. Just to go outside and walk.

Look at the water. At the sky. At the houses. At people. At children walking home from school. At ordinary life around.

Sometimes after such a walk, there are not fewer questions. But it becomes a little easier to breathe and a little simpler to think.

For me, this is also one of those simple things I could easily have missed before.

When you are constantly tired, simple things pass by

I felt this very clearly myself.

When you are constantly tired, your head is busy only with getting through the day. There is no space for walks. No space for attention. No space for conversations. No space for calm evenings.

You are present, but inside there is very little of you.

That is why the topic of well-being became more important to me. Not for nice words. But because your state affects how you live at home, how you speak with people and whether you even notice what is happening around you.

I do not want to live only on autopilot again

Life easily becomes fast again.

Tasks. Work. Bills. Messages. Plans. New questions. One more day, one more list, one more problem.

And in this, it is very easy to return to the state where everything around becomes background again.

I do not want that.

I cannot always be attentive. I do not always have enough strength. Not every day goes the way I wanted.

But I want to catch myself more often on simple things: we are together, the children are growing, the home is alive, life is moving, and this is already not a small thing.

This website also helps me notice more

When I write, it is as if I stop a thought for a moment.

Something that could simply pass through my head becomes text. And then I can see more clearly what is happening inside me.

That is why this website has different topics: family, life in Norway, health, growth, a new direction, ordinary observations.

Because all of this is not separate pieces. It is one life. And when you look more carefully, even simple things begin to explain a lot.

Maybe simple things are what hold a person together

Not always big plans. Not always strong decisions. Not always distant goals.

Sometimes a person is held together by very ordinary things.

Home. Family. Evening. A child's voice. A walk. A warm conversation. The chance to simply be nearby.

When you do not notice this, it feels as if life is somewhere ahead.

But when you start noticing it, you understand: it is already here. It just does not always look the way we once imagined.

Life is often made of simple things

Not only of big decisions, changes or results. But also of mornings, conversations, walks, children, evenings at home and moments that are easy not to notice while they are still here.

Maybe growing older begins exactly there: when you stop waiting only for big events and start seeing your life in what happens nearby every day.
