While I Have the Drive, I Need to Act
Recently, I have once again felt a strong desire to write, work on the website and build something that may be useful for our family in the future. I know myself well enough to understand that this kind of interest does not always stay equally strong. This time, I do not want to spend it only on talking and planning.
While I Have the Drive, I Need to Act
By drive, I mean the ordinary desire to do something. Not only to think about change, but to sit down and write, improve a page, understand a problem or finish something I have been postponing. I do not know how long this period will last, so I want to make sensible use of it now.
This is not a call to work without rest. It is about something simpler: when you have energy, interest and a clear idea, completing one real step is better than leaving everything in your head again.
Sometimes I sit down at the computer intending to fix one small thing on the website. A few hours later, I realise that I have already rewritten a page, noted several new topics and started working on the next article.
I genuinely enjoy doing this at the moment. Not because the website itself is something extraordinary. It simply gives me a place to bring our story together: moving abroad, life in Norway, family, changes in my well-being, new work and the thoughts that appear along the way.
But I also know another side of my character. I can become very interested in something, start quickly, do a lot at the beginning and then gradually turn my attention to something else.
That is why starting is not enough for me this time. I want to leave behind a clear base that I can return to later, even when my pace becomes slower.
Starting is often easier for me than continuing
To be honest, there have already been projects in my life that began very well. There was an interesting idea, plenty of energy, early results and a desire to work almost every day.
Then other matters appeared. Work, family responsibilities, everyday life and new plans. Something that had recently occupied most of my thoughts slowly moved into the background.
The problem was not always the idea itself. Often, I simply failed to turn the first period of interest into a normal way of working.
While I felt excited, I did a lot. When that feeling became weaker, the work almost stopped. Over time, I understood that mood alone is not enough to carry something forward.
What I am doing now
- Writing down topics before I forget them
- Finishing one task before starting another
- Not postponing every decision
- Connecting related articles
- Checking whether the text is clear
- Keeping work I can return to later
This time, I do not want to lose a good beginning
The beginning of something new is often enjoyable. Everything feels fresh. Progress is easy to notice. In one evening, you may complete more than you had planned during the previous few weeks.
The real test usually comes later. The feeling of novelty is gone, and you need to return to ordinary work: checking, correcting, rewriting and finishing.
I cannot promise myself that I will always work with the same level of interest. That would not be honest. But I can make sure that this active period leaves behind more than plans.
There can be finished articles, clear pages, a list of future topics and a simple order that makes it easier to continue later.
One finished task is better than ten ideas
Everything often looks easier in your head. You can imagine a series of articles, a new section, several videos, website updates and many other things.
Thinking about these ideas can even create the feeling that the work has already started. Then you open the website and see that nothing has actually changed.
That is why I now try to count fewer ideas and pay more attention to what has been completed.
A published article stays on the website. I can return to it, share it with someone, translate it or connect it with another topic. An idea that remains only in my head can easily disappear.
Write it down
When a topic or thought appears, I write it down immediately instead of trying to remember it several days later.
Finish something
I choose one specific task that I can realistically complete today instead of making plans for the next six months.
Return to it
Even when the pace becomes slower, continuing is easier when there is already completed work and a clear next step.
This article is not about working without stopping
I do not want to turn a productive period into another reason to exhaust myself. I have a family, ordinary responsibilities, rest and health that should not be postponed either.
After writing about constant exhaustion, it would be strange to say that everyone should now work from morning until night.
For me, acting now does not mean sitting at the computer around the clock. It means using a free hour for one clear task instead of spending it endlessly thinking about what to do.
Sometimes finishing one paragraph is enough. On another day, I may only check a few links. And sometimes the better decision is to do nothing and have a proper rest.
The website is not the main point
SHCHOKIN.PRO currently takes a lot of my attention, but this thought is not only about a website.
People can spend years postponing a conversation, education, a job search, their health or something they have wanted to return to for a long time.
We often wait for a time when there will be fewer problems, more free hours and complete clarity. That moment may never arrive.
I do not have answers to everything either. I do not know how many people will read these articles, how quickly the website will develop or where this work will eventually lead.
But I know that answers will not appear without doing the work first.
This is about more than my wish to write
I manage the website, but many of its topics are connected with our family.
It includes our move to Norway, the children’s adaptation, the search for work, changes in our habits, health, new people and our attempt to understand how to build life further.
That is why I do not want this website to become another project that interested me for only a few weeks. I want it to remain a place where I can write honestly about what we are going through.
Perhaps, several years from now, we will return to these articles ourselves and remember what we were thinking about during this period.
Not everything needs to be finished immediately
One of my mistakes in the past was wanting to see the entire picture too quickly.
When results did not appear as quickly as I had imagined at the beginning, my interest could become weaker.
Now I try to approach this more simply. The website does not need to be finished in a week. The blog does not need to answer every question immediately. Not every article will become the most important one.
Today, I can complete what is clear today. In a month, there will be different thoughts and new experience. Then I can add something, change it or rewrite it.
Small actions really do accumulate
One article may seem like a small task when you look at it on its own. The same is true of one improved section or one new page.
But several months ago, many of these pages did not exist. There were fewer connections between topics, no translated versions and no clear direction for the website.
None of this appeared in one day. It developed gradually.
I wrote about this in “Why It Is Important Not to Devalue Small Changes” . Now I see the same idea not only in theory, but in ordinary work.
A new direction also begins with ordinary work
When thinking about new work or a new direction, it is easy to focus on the future result.
You want clients, partners, new connections and income to appear. That is understandable. But these results still begin with ordinary tasks that nobody sees.
You need to learn to explain things clearly. Say why you are doing this yourself. Answer questions. Avoid exaggerating. Accept that not everyone will be interested.
I wrote more about why this direction is connected with more than income in “Why the New Direction Is Not Only About Money for Me” .
I want to leave myself a simple order
For the work not to depend only on my mood, there needs to be at least a basic order.
I need to know which article comes next, which category it belongs to, which links need checking and when to prepare the translated versions.
These are ordinary technical matters. But they make it easier to return after a break instead of starting everything from the beginning.
I do not need a huge plan for a hundred pages. Seeing the next few steps and completing them gradually is enough.
I do not know what my pace will be later
Perhaps next month I will have less time. Other matters may need more attention. Sometimes the website may go several days or weeks without a new article.
I do not want to make promises to myself that I will later have to break.
But right now, I want to work. There are topics I want to explore, and the website is finally beginning to look like one connected story rather than a collection of separate pages.
So for now, I am simply continuing.
For me, acting means leaving behind finished work
It is easy to say that one day you will create a website, start writing, begin a new direction or take your plans more seriously.
I have done that more than once. I thought about an idea, developed it in my head and returned to it several months later.
This time, I want to approach it differently. Not everything at once. Maybe not as quickly as I would like. But after each active period, I want something finished to remain.
That is what acting means to me now.
While I want to do this, I do not want to postpone it again
I do not know how long this period will last or whether I will always be able to work at the same pace. But right now, I want to write, understand things better and keep building.
Instead of spending too much time wondering whether everything will work, I am trying to finish what I can do today. These ordinary completed tasks create something I can return to and continue later.
